“VADOMAYA Jazz Performance Series”
A great solos feature for vibraphone with a small ensemble! Includes suggested solo material for the vibist, as well as chord symbols for the more advanced performer. “C” and “Bb” lead sheets make it easy to add additional instruments to the basic accompanying trio of piano, bass and drums. Viable for both performance and pedagogical settings. Includes a set of “music minus one” recordings allowing practice options for each instrument. Accessible materials are viable for teaching younger ensembles the basics of improvisation. In more experienced hands this is a wonderful audience friendly tune that could be used in advanced recital settings as well as in concert venues.
GRUNBERG is a calm pop ballad, without extremes in dynamics. It is relatively straightforward; the vibraphone part can be performed using only 2 mallets. The main challenge of the piece is the implementation of the theme, which is almost entirely based on triplet rhythms. It should be played very melodically, calmly, and sweetly.
